Get a Library Card

If you live or pay property tax in Volusia County, you may apply for a free library card by visiting any branch.

Requirements

Identification

Customers must provide identification whenever registering or re-registering for the purpose of verifying name, birth date, and current residential address. See the Forms of ID accepted section on this page.

Any pre-existing records you may have will be merged with your new record. You remain responsible for any associated charges or overdue items.

Parent/Guardian Signature

A parent or guardian must accompany any child wanting a library card in the child’s name.

Foster parents are legal guardians and must take financial responsibility for foster children.

The parent or legal guardian must provide proof of residency, property ownership in Volusia County or proof that the child is enrolled in a Volusia County School.

Children not accompanied by a parent or legal guardian may take home a registration form to be completed and signed by a parent or legal guardian. If the child returns with a completed and signed registration form and is not accompanied by a parent or guardian, the card is processed with the child’s name printed on the back in indelible ink and mailed with a cover letter to the parents.

A child with a valid school ID or State ID may be issued a computer-use-only card without parental permission.

Registration Fees

  • New library cards are free for Volusia County residents.
  • Non-residents who pay Volusia County property taxes can be issued free cards if they provide documentation (such as a property tax bill) verifying their tax-paying status.
  • Non-Volusia County residents must pay a fee to obtain a library card. $30.00 for a 6 month membership and $50.00 for a 12 month membership.
