Important Water Safety Skills
Beginning June 6, Volusia County will distribute pool alarms at the library’s six regional libraries in Deltona, DeLand, Ormond Beach, Daytona Beach on City Island, Port Orange, and New Smyrna. These alarms serve as an added layer of protection for families with pools, sounding an alert when water is disturbed.

THE PEDAL FORWARD PROJECT (for information about getting a bicycle, visit Social Worker in the Library)
S. McCray was referred to the Social Worker in the Libraries program by a community partner. He shared he had been laid off from a job within walking distance from his house. He further reported having three upcoming interviews with different retail stores in the area, but all were more than walking distance away from where he lives. As a recipient of the Pedal Forward Project, he was provided a refurbished bicycle that will allow him to get to the interviews on time and as he said himself, “more presentable” than he would if he had to walk to the interviews in the heat of the day.
