Special Community Initiatives for Children

Books for Bright Beginnings – Books for Bright Beginnings is a library partnership with Volusia County Health Department to support emergent literacy skills for children, birth to age 8.  The library and varying Volusia County Friends of the Library organizations provide used children’s books to the Volusia County Health Department to be curated and used in special libraries located within clinic, dental, and WIC offices.

Reading Rocks – Reading Rocks is a seasonal, literacy outreach partnership with Volusia County Parks and Recreation, Volusia County Lyonia Environmental Center, and the City of Daytona’s Summer Camp programs designed to prevent summer learning slides for school-age children.  Summer campers’ daily reading is supported by strategically placed mobile, lending libraries as well as through camp field trips to the library for tours and more.
