The Summer Food Service Program, referred to as Summer BreakSpot, helps make sure that children continue to receive nutritious meals during the summer when they do not have access to school lunch or breakfast. All children 18 years of age and under who go to an approved site may receive free meals. There are no forms to complete or registration needed to participate.
Meals will be available Monday through Friday unless otherwise indicated. Program runs June 5 to August 11, 2023. Meals will not be served on Tuesday, July 4th.
Volusia County Public Library has partnered with PBC Guru and Freading to create a virtual book club for patrons and the community.
The book for January 5 - March 8 is The Radium Girls by Kate Moore.
Hundreds of girls toil amidst the glowing dust of the radium-dial factories. The glittering chemical covers their bodies from head to toe; they light up the night like industrious fireflies. With such a coveted job, these "shining girls" are the luckiest alive -- until they begin to fall mysteriously ill.
It is always available for download from Freading.
